During the Training

Where do you work as a textile product processor?
In the apprenticeship to become a product refiner Textil, you will complete all relevant stages within the equipment, coating and dyeing department. The latter includes, among other things, the paint kitchen, the wet and dry department and the goods preparation.
What do you do as a textile product processor?
Shrinking – sounds strange at first, doesn’t it? Sanforize on the other hand already somehow more interesting!

Both terms refer to exactly the same thing, namely a finishing process for fabrics and textiles made of natural and synthetic fibres, in which the cloth is mechanically compressed and shrunk before cutting. This process under dry heat prevents the fabric from running in at a later stage during washing, or only to a small extent.

During your apprenticeship you will get to know Sanforizing and many other exciting processes for finishing textiles.

All fibrous materials, i. e. natural fibers as well as synthetic fibers, are refined with us – washed, bleached, dyed, finished. . .

If you enjoyed chemical processes in school, you are in great hands as a product refiner! You independently apply printing pastes and inks based on precise formula calculations and set up various, mainly computer-controlled systems and machines.

Setting process parameters and controlling the finishing processes of textiles in the laboratory are also part of your daily routine. In order to guarantee a smooth production process, you regularly maintain the plants and machines and correct minor faults. You see, a responsible task awaits you!
How does the apprenticeship as a textile product processor work?
You're brave and you know how to handle danger? At the beginning of your training you will get to know the handling of the chemicals used in addition to fiber studies. Safety is, of course, paramount, as handling chemicals can become extremely dangerous if used incorrectly. Only when you master this interaction in your sleep, the contents of your training become more specific and you get to know all the processes in the dyeing shop. Our experienced trainers are there to advise and supervise you while you are being trained on the different machines. You also regularly take quality controls, which are then checked and evaluated in the laboratory.
Where's the vocational school? How often do you go to vocational school?
The training to become a product processor Textil takes place in the dual system. Vocational school lessons take place as block lessons at the trade school in Balingen.
Which subjects are important at the product processor Textil?
In addition to general subjects such as German, English and community studies, vocational subjects such as subject-specific mechanical engineering and textile studies are also taught.

In Chemistry you will learn the dosing of chemicals for finishing, in Mathematics you will learn the calculation of chemical formulations.

In physics you acquire knowledge in the field of electricity theory in order to gain an understanding of how to use machines.

For example, you will be taught how to detect machine faults and how to repair minor damages.
How does the interim inspection work at the product processor Textil?
In the theoretical part of the intermediate examination, the contents of all school subjects are queried. The practical part deals with a business order as well as a theoretical part, in which professional-related questions are asked about the course of a complete finishing process of a textile product. For the practical part, for example, a piece of fabric has to be bleached and further refined.
How does the final inspection work at the product processor Textil?
At the end of your training you will have to take the final exam. In the theoretical part of the school, the contents of all school subjects are queried.

The practical part includes a complex company assignment as well as a theoretical part in which questions about professional practice are asked.

In the practical part, you work out a complete finishing job, in which a piece of fabric is pre-treated accordingly, pulled onto a clamping frame, dried and goes through a complete process within the equipment at different stations until dyeing.

For the dyeing process you create a recipe for which dyes are needed and check their availability. The fabric is then sampled, finished and, if necessary, reworked.

Questions will then be asked about this complete process and your professional competence will be queried.
After the Training

What promotion and further education opportunities do you have at TRIGEMA after your apprenticeship?
Of course, you have the opportunity to work as a product refiner right after your training. With the relevant professional experience, further opportunities are open to you, for example, to become a technician in textile finishing or to become an industrial master in textile industry. But that is not all, of course!

Among other things, you can take the trainer's certificate as well as become a machine operator or a quality inspector. Once you have proven your expertise, you will also have the opportunity to become a department manager, shift manager or even an assistant to the production manager yourself.
