Sustainability at TRIGEMA

Environment & Resources

As Germany's largest manufacturer of sports and leisurewear, TRIGEMA traditionally stands for state-of-the-art technology, social and economic responsibility and the preservation of Germany as a production location. We are proud to maintain a four-stage production process - from the yarn to the finished product - in the Swabian Jura to this day!

We work exclusively with the latest technology and have ultra-modern water and energy-saving systems. At the same time, we continuously invest in the improvement and optimization of our production processes, especially with regard to the treatment of waste water.

For people & the environment - regional production that conserves resources

At our main plant, we produce all the electricity we need ourselves with two gas turbines and two combined heat and power plants using cogeneration. The resulting waste heat is used to produce steam, which is used for the production processes in our textile finishing department and to heat our main plant and our test store in Burladingen. In this way, we fully utilize the actual "waste product" of heat, which is generated during electricity production.

The topic of renewable energy is also of great importance to TRIGEMA. Since 2007, we have been producing solar power on a total area of 6000 m², which is fed into the grid or partly used by the company itself. From fall 2023, the area will be expanded to include further parts of our main plant in Burladingen, which means that all the roofs of our production sites will be fully covered.

The fact that sustainability is lived at TRIGEMA and that environmentally friendly production is important to us is not only demonstrated by the production process, which conserves resources as much as possible, but also by the careful selection of certified suppliers, partners and raw materials. A major problem in the textile industry is the exploitation of workers in the factories and the waste of natural resources. The developments and trends within the industry are alarming, because while even "fast fashion" is no longer the measure of all things, the focus is on "ultra fast fashion" through to "real time fashion", i.e. fashion in real time that is available to everyone at any time at extremely low prices.

High-quality and sustainable clothing – 100% Made in Germany

So this choice is a decisive factor in the right direction and away from this dramatic situation. The production in Germany in accordance with strict regulations and guidelines alone makes our products considerably more sustainable and environmentally friendly compared to clothing from the Far East, which is often produced under minimal requirements for people and the environment, as considerable amounts of CO² are saved by considerably shorter transport distances. In the end, the industry's usual, supra-regional or even international transport routes are completely eliminated.

Buying our high-quality, durable clothing lets you immediately feel the sustainability you live at TRIGEMA financially. At first glance, a high-quality TRIGEMA product may seem more expensive than some cheaply produced clothes from the Far East. However, it is usually quickly damaged, bleached or emptied, is no longer worn and therefore often discarded after a short time. For this reason, high-quality produced clothing is cheaper for your wallet in the long run and is always a pleasure to wear even after many washes. At TRIGEMA, destruction of the goods is not an option, even in the case of returns. Whatever the case, the products always get a second life and continue to be used.

In addition to our own inspection bodies, we have all textile garments produced in-house, from Gr. 104 to 5XL, certified according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. Thanks to the additional certification with STeP by OEKO-TEX®, our entire collection is also certified Made in Green by OEKO-TEX®. Furthermore, all TRIGEMA products are certified with the state seal for sustainable textiles, the Green Button.

Sustainability at TRIGEMA – not a trend, but a tradition

We know that the preservation of ecosystems and the promotion of new, sustainable products are two of the most important tasks of the present. TRIGEMA has always focused on the sustainable and environmentally friendly production of textiles and is therefore more than ever on the pulse of the times.

In 2006, in collaboration with the Environmental Institute EPEA, the first compostable T-shirt in the world was created using the Cradle-to-Cradle® principle – a real pioneering work. Building on this success, we added a new organic fashion and Cradle to Cradle® Gold line to our segment in 2012 with the TRIGEMA Change® collection. This collection, which consists of 100% organic cotton, has since found its place in our assortment and is constantly expanding.

The use of organic cotton is, of course, in the spirit of sustainability at TRIGEMA, because unlike conventional cotton, the cultivation of this cotton takes care of the long-term preservation of natural resources – such as soil fertility, clean drinking water and the preservation of the ecological balance.

By developing and applying new production processes, the Cradle-to-Cradle® principle enables us to produce textiles in the best possible respect for the environment and completely free of pollutants, so that they can be returned to the natural cycle at the end of their product life cycle. You as a customer can accelerate this development together with us.

When buying sports and leisure clothing, pay attention to ecological quality. Find out about the production conditions. Invest a few more euros in fair and environmentally friendly products and thus in innovation and the future. Only together can producers and consumers change the way we do business. Be a part of it – be part of it!
