What degree do you need as a textile and fashion seamstress?
For the apprenticeship, you should have at least a good secondary school leaving certificate or the intermediate school leaving certificate (Realschule certificate).
What requirements should you bring with you?
Are you excited about the world of fashion? Would you like to find out how a piece of clothing is made? Do you already know something about tailoring and have already sewn your own clothes? The duration of the training is 2 years.

The training always begins in September of the respective year.

How does the application process work?
The application process for training as a textile and fashion sewer is as follows: You send us your complete application documents (cover letter, CV, references and, if necessary, other references such as certificates) by email or as an application folder. However, the quickest way is via our application forms at the top of the page.

Once you have uploaded and sent all documents, you will immediately receive a confirmation of receipt from us. After we have carefully examined your documents and you have aroused our interest, you will be invited to meet us in person.

This appointment helps us to get an idea of what makes you tick as a person, whether we would be a good fit together and whether we pursue the same values and goals. If the conversation is positive and there is sympathy on both sides, you will receive an invitation to a trial day at the company.

In this way, you will get to know your area of responsibility as well as your working environment with your future colleagues and get an impression of what it is like to work in the sewing department at TRIGEMA.

If both you and we can still imagine pursuing a common path in the future, we will make a decision within 1-2 weeks and you will receive a corresponding offer from us.
How much do you earn as a textile and fashion sewer in training?
During your training to become a textile and fashion sewer, you will earn €1,310 gross per month in the first year of your apprenticeship. In the second year of your apprenticeship you will earn €1,360 until your salary increases to €1,445 in the third year of your apprenticeship.
During the Training


Where do you work as a textile and fashion sewer?
Training as a textile and fashion seamstress at TRIGEMA takes place in the dual system in our factories in Burladingen, Altshausen and Rangendingen.

You work in production and learn step by step different sewing techniques for making our products. During cutting, fabrics are laid, cut, fixed and sorted. There you will learn how to cut and sew fabric pieces precisely.

In the pattern sewing room, fabrics are cut by hand and garments are sewn from start to finish. There you will learn all the steps required to produce the finished product. In the laying shop, the finished sewn goods are checked, corrected if necessary and folded.

Other departments include the printing shop including embossing and transfer, warehouse, shipping, goods receiving and the packing room. The manufactured products are ironed and packaged there, among other things. Of course, regular quality controls should not be missing in the individual departments.
What do you do as a textile and fashion sewer?
During your training as a textile and fashion sewer, you will carry out preparatory and production work and learn to operate all sewing and special machines. You will also learn how to plan and carry out the various work processes.

The fabrics are sometimes cut independently by hand, ironed or fixed and finally sewn together to form a finished garment. The tasks of a textile and fashion sewer also include incorporating ingredients such as ribbons, buttons or zippers and changing machines between individual work steps.

This work requires knowledge of work processes, machines, materials, quality assurance and pattern designs.
How does training to become a textile and fashion sewer work?
In the first year of training, the focus is on using the machines and sewing textiles. You practice your craft and get to know the different work processes as well as how to operate the sewing and special machines.

In the second year of your apprenticeship, you will be more closely integrated into production and work in other departments such as cutting.

At the same time, the school focus in the first year of teaching is on textile surfaces and their production.

In the second year of training, more attention is paid to the finishing of the products, for example pre-treatments such as bleaching, washing and ironing, but also coloring processes such as dyeing and printing, equipment such as impregnation, softness and wrinkle resistance as well as coating and final inspection.

Once you have gone through all the departments, you will have to take the final exam at the IHK at the end of your training period.
Where is the vocational school? How often do you have vocational school?
The vocational school for the academic part of training to become a textile and fashion sewer is the Philipp Matthäus Hahn School in Balingen. The lessons take place in blocks over all years of training, which means that after two weeks in the company you will have a week of school.
Which subjects are important for textile and fashion sewing?
In addition to general education subjects such as German, English, business skills and social studies, job-related subjects are also taught.

In LBT (professional theory learning field), which is divided into different areas, topics such as the production and finishing of textile surfaces, pattern construction, ingredients in the textile industry, design and stylistic options for clothing as well as calculation and planning for sewing, cutting and calculation are taught.

In LBTW (learning field of professional theory workshop), the practical lessons in the workshop, the theoretical basics are implemented and deepened in practice. This includes sewing, pattern modifications and cutting. In the first year of the apprenticeship the project involves sewing a skirt and in the second a blouse or shirt.

Computer application teaches the digital creation and modification of cut parts in a computer program.
How does the intermediate exam work for textile and fashion sewing?
The intermediate examination takes place at the end of the first year of training or at the beginning of the second year of training. In the written part, which is written in the vocational school, the content from the LBT subject is queried. The practical part of the test is carried out and evaluated in the company according to the IHK specifications.
How does the final exam work for textile and fashion sewing?
In the written part of the final examination, the content from LBT, business skills, German and social studies are examined. The practical part is carried out together with external auditors in the company, who also ask technical questions. The product to be sewn is adapted to the respective company.
After the Training


What can you do as a textile and fashion sewer after training?
In addition to the opportunity to work as a textile and fashion sewer immediately after your training, depending on your school qualifications, you can also switch to a fashion school or study, for example, as a designer or in textile and clothing technology. You also have the opportunity to specialize in the area of textile finishing in order to become a technician there.
What opportunities for advancement and further training do you have at TRIGEMA?
After successfully completing your training, you have the opportunity to work at TRIGEMA as a textile and fashion sewer or in the sample department as a sample sewer. You also have the opportunity to add a third year of apprenticeship and complete the textile and fashion tailoring course. We are happy to retain motivated employees in our company and offer opportunities for in-house further training. For example, you can become a group leader in production, change departments internally based on your personal strengths and goals, or complete the third year of your apprenticeship and aim for a position in the CAD cutting area, digital printing, printing or pattern sewing, for example.
